Show and Tell & Alzheimer's...

Kelli at There's No Place Like Home is hosting Show and Tell Friday. Kelli is one of the craftiest bloggers I know. I'm always amazed when I see her posts and the beautiful things she has made.

Recently I was digging through some boxes and found a couple of dolls that I made a million years ago. I was pretty crafty back then
.

They are sister dolls.

I actually made them from scratch. The little bodies, hair, clothing and toys.

This one had a little horse on a stick. What do you call them?

This is the younger sister.

She is holding a little doll.

I made their little shoes with a sharpy.

I honestly can't believe the details that I put into these dolls. I must of had a ton of free time back then...a million years ago. :-)

I also wanted to introduce you to a real life friend a
nd bunco sister, Krista. Her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She has created a blog with lots of information and research on the disease. If you know anyone who has a family member that is suffering from Alzheimer or dementia, please let them know about her blog. It's a great way to build a support group.

Those dolls are so precious! You know every time I use that word I think of the Lord of the Rings. Anyway, yes my Grandfather had Alzheimer's. Not fun at all.

You did a great job with the sweet dolls-so much detail, down to the miniature one.

Thanks for the link to her blog. I'll go there now.

I recently found your blog through Kelli's, and I'd bookmarked it as I like it so much. Your dolls are so beautiful.

In a sad coincidence, my dad passed away from Alzheimer's just two weeks ago. It's been a hard, long journey.

WOW Brandee...those are adorable dolls!!!! I can see all of the detail, they are soooo cute!!!!

My grandmother had Alzheimer's, it is such a sad and devestating disease. She would have hated to know how her sharp mind ended up :(

Hi Brandee,
Your dolls are adorable. You did put lots of detail in them. It is funny how our interests change through the years...I used to cross stitch all the time....don't even have most of it anymore!

Hope you have a great day and weekend.

Colour me awed by your dolls :)

I once wrestled for about 13 hours with a 1-hour skirt pattern...and it was Ugly...but you bet I wore it out at least once...

so I'm amazed by people with the ability to craft beautiful things :)

I know of at least 1 blogger who has a family member with AD...I'll pass along your friend's blog...

You did an excellent job on those dolls. They are fantastic! I like to make dolls too, though mine are more primitive, no where near as beautiful as those.

Hi Brandee, yes those were the days when you had free time to do all the extra work. Those dolls turned out great! You should make little fall and Christmas outfits for them and use them again for the seasons. They really are too cute to keep packed away! Great job.
Blessings,
Debbie

Great dolls, you are so creative.

My grandfather passed away this last November but for the 5 years prior to that I was his legal guardian as he had Alzheimers. It was heartbreaking. Thanks for bringing this to light.

It's me again. To answer the question about the lights on the tree--they are white. I didn't care for the orange but if you prefer them they would work.

What sweet dolls and you have done such a great job! Like the idea of using a sharpie for the shoes.

Don't sell yourself short, I find you have lots of creative and clever ideas, why do you think I got hooked on your blog...you silly girl.

Brandee, I saw how you painted your lamp shades and how nice they looked....so I painted mine black. They looked really good...until I turned on the lamp...eek!...plus some of the paint went through to the inside cloth on the lamp...not too big of a deal..but when I turn on the lamp, the shade does not look good....what did I do wrong? ~C~

cindy said...

Those are great tips!...I will try painting it again...and then do the light first coat on the next lamp (its twin)...One thing about painting it black..the lamp doesnt give off much light...not sure about adding fringe...I would like to try that...but he lamp already has a "leopard" printed round thinging in between the shade and base..so it might be a bit much. I really like the "fringe" look
though....so do you just hot glue it on? ~c~
