Update on Red Alert.
If you decide to paint your lamp shades, paint the first coat lightly so the paint doesn't bleed through. Add additional coats, making sure they dry in between each coat. Turn on the lamps each time you paint so you can see how they look with each coat of paint. You will lose the brush strokes after a couple of coats. It took me 3 coats of paint to get the desired look.
Also, the paint is acrylic paint from Walmart...called Barn Red. The fringe is from Hobby Lobby. I just hot glued the fringe to the lamp shades.
I don't mean to alarm you but I've gone on a MAD red paint rampage. I love red and wanted to add some of it to my foyer.
This lamp shade could use some color.
I couldn't remember any decorating shows that painted lamp shades. I wasn't sure I COULD paint lamp shades. Thanks to all you wonderful bloggers out there I gathered enough nerve to paint them. I purchased the trim from (who else) Hobby Lobby.
I've started my Fall projects. I'm taking pictures along the way. My mother-in-law arrives Wednesday so I wanted to have all my Fall stuff out by then. Thank you all for stopping by. I have the sweetest commenter's out there.
Also, I've been tagged by my sister Darlene of Darlene's Days. Well, she's not my real sister but don't tell anyone.
I'm supposed to list 6 unimportant things about me. I really couldn't think of anything so I asked my husband and children to come up with the answers. So, here is goes:
1. (my husband) She doesn't know the difference between fahrenheit and celcius
2. (my daughter) She likes to read magazines in the bathroom.
3. (my middle child) She likes fish.
4. (my youngest) She likes candles.
5. (my husband again) She calls her car Edward.
6. (me) I hate peas.
Now I would like to tag:
Karen at Our Place in the Sun
Carrie at Carrie's Little World
Maybry's Gamma at Georgia Peach Ramblings
Melissa at 3 Ma'am's and Their Guys
Deb at My Life's Little Pieces
Cindy at Love from MN

I love the red. The pictures just pop with that color and the black frames and the Iron. I also didn't know you could paint lamp shades. They look great.
Blessings,
Linda
Love all your red! I can't wait to see your fall pictures!
First, I love the red! Second reading magazines in the bathroom and calling your car Edward are hysterical! Those that don't know, it's a Twilight thing! HaHa!
Laura :)
Hey I really like the red, especially with the black iron and frames, wow. All you need is a matching red throw for one of your chairs or sofa (you know the one you lay on and eat bon bons!). Hahahaha. Anyhoo, I think it looks fabulous and great idea to paint the lamp shades!!!!!
Blessings,
Debbie
I love the touches of red and I really love the trim on the lamps.
I LOVE all of your red....your new color right now!!!! I can't wait to see all of your Fall stuff!
Yep, it does sound like you are my long lost sister....lol
You know that I love a good pop of red in a room. The mats turned out great. They really come alive on your wall. And I never knew that you could paint a lampshade until bloggy land. I've learned so many fun tricks.
Can't wait to see all of your fall pretties.

Inspired move. I love the red. I want to copy the idea of red mat on the picture frames. The red shade also gives the lamp so much more personality. I'm adding you to my Google reader. I love decorating although I don't have much time, and probably not your creativity and inspired eyes. So getting ideas from your blog will make it easier :-)
Hi there! I don't know how I stumbled onto your blog, but I love it. I love the red, it really makes everything pop. Did you use spraypaint? Can't wait to see all the fall stuff :)
I love the red! What kind of paint did you use? Spray paint? The red really makes things stand out. Love it!!

I love, love, love the red. Wow what an impact it makes especially the mats in the picture frames. Great idea! I also didn't know that you could paint lamp shades. Did you just use regular spray paint? I have to do that in a few places in my house. Thanks for the idea. Thanks also for the tag. Can't wait to play along.
Love the RED!!! I too am a red person. I love your photo wall! Hope you don't mind if I copy it. Did you get your iron piece over the photos at HL too?

I love touches of red and yours are great! ..and you painted the lampshade??? Great idea! What type of paint did you use?
Happy Labor Day! ~RHonda :)
Girl, we are cut from the same cloth, I LOVE Red too. I actually gasped when I saw the pictures with the red...wonderful touch. And the lampshades too cool. What paint did you use? I love them. I might add...you were a brave soul to do that.
Yes, I play along on the tag.

The paint is a super expensive lamp shade paint that is too hard to find. Kidding! It's one of those little bottles of acrylic paint from Walmart for $1.97. The color I used is Barn Red. I used 3 coats. I would start out with a thin coat b/c mine bled through with the first coat. I have to say I like my lamp shades better then the red fabric shades. I had bought some but the light it gave off was too red...so I took them back. My painted shades don't give off a red light. Lighting is super important!
Wow...I cannot believe those shades. I stared at them...I am totally amazed with painting shades! The fringe makes it! I love red! I have had a red room in every house I live in...this time it's my laundry room!
I will be back!

Great idea everything looks great. Thanks for the tag!
Did you really paint the lampshades? I'll have to give that a try...I have several that I hate. Maybe I'll love them in the end.
Thanks.
those mats look fabulous painted red :) as do those lamp shades...
(it is true you can paint just about anything...I painted a sofa once and it looked fabulous, lol...no one could believe it was painted)
The pops of red look wonderful!
I have painted lamp shades before, but it has been years. I have one in our master bedroom that I really need to tackle.
OHHH yummmmmmmmmy sista! I painted a lamp shade once...black. I used reg. ole acyrlic and mixed it with fabric paint. I adore your red mats...really shows off the pics. Happy Labor Day! cherry

Love it, love it, love it. I too like red and am picking up the courage to paint my loungeroom red. I'm new to your site and like it very much.
Brandee, LOVE the red! It really makes the pictures pop!... and the lamps! WOW! They look awesome! I will have to try that...(I have some gold lamp shades that should be black). You must have had fun hearing what your family had to say about you..very cute!...And thanks for the tag, I will give it a try.~Cindy~

Hi Brandee, Labor Day weekend was very uneventful, bummer! How was yours? Did you hear Midnight Sun is put on hold indefinitely? Someone leaked it to the internet. Stephenie did make it available on her website and I just finished reading it. You can tell it is unfinished, but it's fabulous and I really hope she changes her mind. Oh well, at least there is the movie to look forward to. My mother LOVED the series but is totally creeped out about Jacob and Renessme, haha!
Oh! I LOVE love love the red! I can't believe what a difference it made to those pictures!
Gorgeous!
Also, I'm laughing over your name for your car. I need a good one. A friend of mine calls her mini van 'GC' for 'golden chariot'.
I love the red in the pictures...it makes such a difference. And I can't believe the lamp shades work painted! That is soooo cool! You are now my new deco hero!
I think the red looks GREAT! What a difference little changes like that make. Amazing. -Julia
You painted lampshades? Just like that? Oh, now my brain is spinning. Why didn't I think of that? :)
It looks awesome! Go red!
Wait! You painted lampshades? With what? Spray paint? I want to do that! And that trim on them is woooonderful!!!!
Shannon
Gee, I had no idea that you could paint lampshades. Guess what I'll be trying soon???
